Staying On Guard

Statistics from RAINN.org

I remember when I first found out about the Israylites and listening to a lesson about the fallen angels. I had  previously done some reading about the gods in Greek Mythology and knew from reading ‘The Oddyssey’ that Odysseus and Penelope had a “pass code” so that when her husband came back home, she knew that it was him and not a god (or fallen angel as I later found out) disguised as him. The “code” was that Odysseus had to know that their bed was made from olive wood. I know from reading other Greek stories, that the gods (watchers) like to fool, rape, have their way with women, seizing them when they are alone. The only thing is, is that, I thought, “Oh this is something for YOUNG women to worry about.”

A few weeks ago, I was watching the news. The reporter was explaining about how and where a SIXTY-FIVE year old woman was raped! I was shocked but I really should not have been because older women…still “be” beautiful, slim & trim. I was ignorant about victims of rape and had wrong thinking, thinking it was a crime among the very young. Because, as you can see from the chart above, TWENTY-EIGHT percent of rape victims are middle-aged women which makes them the second highest group of women raped although most victims are under thirty-four (when the statistics are combined). Seeing this chart made me wake up about the facts! It’s something how Yah starts waking you up about something, a little here, a little there…line upon line, precept upon precept…you know the scripture.

Here are other statistics I read:

  1. Every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted and every 8 minutes that victim is a child.
  2.  Only 6 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison.
  3. On average there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States.
  4. Sexual violence has fallen by more than half since 1993. (So in the 90s there was probably around 700,000 people being raped every year in America).
  5. Young men are 5x more likely to be raped during their college years.

*I forgot to add this disclaimer: This post is not intended to make anyone worry. Just as the title states, it is intended for you to have your armor up.
