Staying Pure in an Evil World

Excerpt from a book that I am reading:

(David), the psalm writer posed a question that all believers should ask: How can we remain pure when we live in a filthy environment? The answer is found in Psalm 119:9:

“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying Your word and following (Your law).”

Yahoshua acknowledged the fact that He was leaving His apostles in a tempting environment, a place where evil threatened to overcome them. But He trusted that Yah would protect His followers from evil and keep them pure through the power of His word.  John 17:15-17 says:

“I’m not asking you to take them out of the world but to keep them safe from the evil one. They are not part of this world any more than I am. Make them pure and (qodesh) by teaching them your words of truth.”

Thoughts lead to actions. Thus, the first step in remaining pure is to focus our thoughts on things that are true. Philippians 4:8 is a powerful reminder to believers:

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

The world is filled with impurity. Temptation surrounds us and at every turn we see new ways to disobey Yah, new paths that lead to sin. We desperately need to know how to stay pure. The first truth that must sink into our minds is the fact that we cannot remain pure on our own. We are weak to temptation. We are prone to sin. We are in over our heads. The second truth is that Yah can and will help us. His power is greater than the temptations that surround us. His strength in us can help us RESIST and OVERCOME evil. How? Yah’s Word is our best defense. (Yahoshua the living word and our example)

The only way to remain pure is to saturate our minds with Yah’s word. We claim Yah’s strength and power by reading His word and obeying it.
